Whether you’re planning a beach vacation or searching for a new local favorite, finding the best restaurants in Destin-Fort Walton Beach can feel overwhelming. Beyond the waterfront tourist spots, you’ll find an impressive mix of fresh Gulf seafood, award-winning sushi, family-owned restaurants, neighborhood coffee shops, and chef-driven dining experiences that have earned regional and national recognition.
After living in Destin since 2017, these are the restaurants I return to again and again—and the places I recommend most often when visitors ask where to eat. From casual seafood shacks and taco spots to fine dining and hidden local gems, these restaurants showcase what makes the Destin-Fort Walton Beach food scene so special.

Harbor Docks
Destin’s Best Sushi and Fresh Gulf Seafood
A Destin landmark since 1979, Harbor Docks is one of the best restaurants in Destin for both local seafood and award-winning sushi. The setting has “old Destin” vibes, the harbor views are beautiful, and the seafood is as fresh as it gets because the restaurant sources directly from its own wholesale seafood market. Plus, the sushi program here is excellent, curated by Chef Yoshi Eddings. My personal favorites are the Backdown and Big Papi rolls.
Local Tip: While it may not seem like Thai food would be their specialty, the Pad Thai on their lunch menu is incredible!

Camille’s
Cafe by Day, Seafood and Sushi by Night
Located on Scenic 98 right across from the beach, Camille’s at Crystal Beach offers two completely different dining experiences. During the day, the casual sidewalk café serves coffee, smoothies, sandwiches, pizza, cocktails, and more. You can dine on the patio or take it to go if you want to enjoy your meal on the beach.
In the evening, the upstairs dining room transforms into an intimate seafood and sushi destination featuring fresh Gulf seafood sourced from Harbor Docks Wholesale Seafood Market and award-winning sushi also curated by Chef Yoshi Eddings. A few local favorites include the macadamia-crusted grouper, seared scallops and Gulf shrimp, house salad, and grilled catch of the day.
Local Tip: Order a pizza and cocktail to go and enjoy it on the beach!

East Pass Coffee Co.
Destin’s Favorite Local Coffee Shop
East Pass Coffee Co. is more than just a coffee shop — it’s a community gathering place. Known for its coffee, family-friendly outdoor space, and elevated breakfast and lunch menu, it’s one of my favorite spots to start the day in Destin. The harvest bowl, breakfast sandwich, smash burger, and acai bowls have all earned loyal followings, and the relaxed atmosphere makes it easy to linger a little longer.
Local Tip: Keep an eye on their Instagram for pop-up markets, Craft Club, and collaborations with other local businesses.

Stewby’s
Fresh Local Seafood Without the Fuss
If you want to understand why locals love Stewby’s Seafood Shanty, just show up hungry and order the grilled catch of the day with any of their sides. The fried shrimp, fish tacos, gumbo, and hushpuppies are also popular orders. This is a no-frills seafood spot that keeps its focus exactly where it should be: fresh local catch, honest prices, and food that doesn’t need a fancy backdrop to taste incredible.
Local Tip: Get there early! The line is often out the door, especially for dinner in the summer months.

La Paz
Gulf-to-Table Mexican and the Best Margaritas in Destin
Family-owned and operated since 1993, La Paz combines fresh Gulf seafood with Mexican-inspired flavors. The restaurant is especially known for its handcrafted margaritas made with fresh-squeezed citrus and premium tequila, but the food deserves just as much attention. A few favorites include the fish tacos, Caribbean shrimp quesadilla, and queso with chips.
Local Tip: After Thanksgiving, La Paz transforms into a Christmas bar with holiday cocktails and over-the-top decor.

Marina Café
Waterfront Fine Dining in Destin
Overlooking Destin Harbor, Marina Café has built a reputation as one of the area’s premier fine dining restaurants. The elegant dining room, thoughtfully curated wine list, and chef-driven menu make it a favorite for date nights and special occasions. The scallops are a standout dish, and if you dine early, the restaurant’s popular buy-one-get-one entrée special adds even more value to the experience (available between 5pm and 6pm).
Local Tip: Make a reservation for the main dining room or pop into the bar for happy hour (available daily between 5pm and 7pm).

Primrose Coastal Italian
Refined Italian Dining at Henderson Beach Resort
Located inside Henderson Beach Resort, Primrose Coastal Italian brings together the flavors of Italy with the fresh seafood and seasonal ingredients of the Gulf Coast. Executive Chef Scott Plumley has created a menu centered around house-made pastas, locally caught seafood, premium steaks, and thoughtfully selected wines, all served in an elegant yet welcoming setting. Guests can choose between the stylish indoor dining room or the beautiful outdoor patio, which overlooks the resort’s pool and lush, landscaped grounds, making it one of the prettiest places to enjoy dinner in Destin. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply looking for an elevated night out, Primrose offers one of the area’s best fine dining experiences. Don’t skip the house-made focaccia to start, then choose from the fresh pastas, Gulf seafood, or one of the expertly prepared steaks for your entrée.
Fun Fact: The restaurant is named after the Primrose, the first seine fishing boat in Destin. The historic vessel helped shape the town’s fishing heritage and is now preserved at the Destin History & Fishing Museum.

Burrito del Sol
Baja-Style Mexican in Fort Walton Beach and Destin
Burrito del Sol is a family-owned Baja-style Mexican restaurant with locations in both Fort Walton Beach and Destin. Everything is made fresh daily, including slow-roasted meats cooked for hours to maximize flavor. The menu is built around four signature flavor profiles: Baja, chipotle, BBQ, and Southwest, so you can easily customize your meal. The blackened shrimp tacos Baja-style and chipotle steak nachos are popular items, and the laid-back atmosphere makes it an easy choice for lunch or dinner.
Local Tip: They have several specials throughout the week, including 15% off on Military Appreciation Tuesdays with a military ID.

Bitterroot
Elevated Southern Cuisine and Craft Cocktails
Bitterroot has become a go-to restaurant for locals thanks to its creative craft cocktails, chef-driven Southern cuisine, and warm, stylish atmosphere. The menu blends familiar Southern flavors with thoughtful techniques and seasonal ingredients, creating dishes that feel elevated without being overly formal. Whether you’re stopping in for drinks at the bar or settling in for dinner, it’s the kind of place that encourages you to stay awhile. It’s also earned recognition from the MICHELIN Guide, further cementing its reputation as one of the area’s standout dining destinations.
Local Tip: They have an incredible brunch menu available Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 2:30pm.

Local Market
A Neighborhood Favorite for Breakfast and Lunch
Part sandwich shop, part market, part gathering place, Local Market is a must for breakfast or lunch. The menu features breakfast classics, some of the best sandwiches in town, smoothies, coffee, and more. The Cuban sandwich is particularly popular, and the casual atmosphere, outdoor seating, and family-friendly touches make it a place you’ll want to revisit.
Local Tip: Bring quarters for the pinball machines! Both kids and adults will love playing with these while waiting for your food.

The Gulf on Okaloosa Island
Waterfront Dining with a View
Built from repurposed shipping containers and set directly on Choctawhatchee Bay, The Gulf offers one of the most unique dining settings near Destin-Fort Walton Beach. Guests can arrive by car or boat to enjoy fresh seafood, cocktails, and unbeatable waterfront views. It’s a laid-back spot where live music, sunsets, and a casual atmosphere often steal the show.
Local Tip: Bring your pup! Since most of the seating is outside, it’s a dog-friendly spot.

The Deck at Destin Brewery
Craft Beer, Pizza, and Live Music
The Deck at Destin Brewery combines locally brewed craft beer, artisan pizza, and live entertainment in a welcoming, family-friendly setting (dogs are welcome, too!). With indoor and outdoor seating, frequent events, and a menu that goes beyond typical brewery fare, it’s become a popular gathering place for both locals and visitors. The blood orange, blonde, and lavender hard lemonade are two of my go-to drinks.
Local Tip: Enjoy live music on Friday evenings from 5pm to 8pm.

Pink Coyote Ice Cream
Creative Small-Batch Ice Cream
For dessert, Pink Coyote is hard to beat. This locally loved ice cream shop creates inventive flavors using quality ingredients and rotates seasonal offerings throughout the year. The ice cream flight lets you sample six flavors at once, making it perfect for first-time visitors. My kids never pass up Cookie Creature, while I always look for Summer Berry Cobbler.
Local Tip: pick up some baked goods! Their brownies, cookies, and rotating specials never disappoint.

Dewey Destin’s Seafood Restaurant
Fresh Seafood with Bayfront Views
Perched right on the bay, Dewey Destin’s Seafood Restaurant serves fresh Gulf seafood in a casual waterfront setting. The menu focuses on local seafood prepared simply and well, allowing the quality of the catch to shine. Add in beautiful bay views and a laid-back atmosphere, and it’s easy to see why it’s become a longtime local favorite.
Local Tip: If you want to enjoy views of that crystal clear water Destin is known for, dine during high tide.

Beach Walk Cafe
Gulf-Front Fine Dining at Henderson Park Inn
Located inside the adults-only Henderson Park Inn, Beach Walk Café offers one of the most romantic dining experiences in Destin-Fort Walton Beach. The Gulf-front setting, attentive service, and refined menu create an experience that feels special from start to finish. Whether you’re celebrating an anniversary or simply want an unforgettable dinner by the water, this is one of the best fine dining restaurants in Destin.
Local Tip: Before your meal, grab a drink at the Tiki Bar and enjoy the Gulf-front patio with Adirondack chairs. It’s open to the public, so you don’t have to be a hotel guest.

Okaloosa Yummies has become a go-to stop for fresh donuts, gelato, eclairs, and other creative desserts. This family-friendly spot in Fort Walton Beach offers a fun selection of treats that keep both kids and adults happy.
