There’s a new beach bar in town: The Sand Flea! Located within Sandpiper Cove, this waterfront eatery offers tasty bites, cold drinks, and stunning views of the Gulf. It’s open daily from 9am to sunset, so you can start your day with a breakfast burger or avocado toast, then grab fish tacos and a cocktail after having some fun in the sun. For the ultimate convenience, you can order online from your beach chair and receive a text when it’s ready!

The owner, Chatham Morgan, also owns Destin favorites La Paz and The Local Market, so you know the food is going to be good! The menu even features a few signature items from those popular restaurants. Craving La Paz chips, salsa and queso? You can now snack on those by the beach! Plus, you can pair it with a La Pazarita. Want to try The Local Market’s #1 Cuban Sandwich? You got it! Made with roast pork, ham, pickles, yellow mustard and Swiss cheese on a Cuban roll, it somehow tastes even better when you have your feet in the sand and a view of the water 😉 I also tried the fish tacos, cheeseburger and fried shrimp, which were all delicious!

Curious about why it’s called The Sand Flea? There are a few reasons why it’s the perfect fit for this new dining establishment: the sand flea is a popular bait used for pompano fishing off the beaches of Destin, one of the sandpiper bird’s favorite foods, and an old school Okaloosa Island seafood shack from days gone by. At this new Destin restaurant, it’s also the name of their signature cocktail, which is made with Meyers dark and light rum plus orange, pineapple and lime juices. This refreshing concoction is sure to become your go-to summertime drink.

While The Sand Flea is open to everyone, the public can only access it by walking up from the beach. There isn’t any parking or road access unless you are staying at Sandpiper Cove or visiting someone who is. If you get the chance to try it, you’re in for a treat! From the casual, open-air atmosphere to the delicious menu items, dining at The Sand Flea is a fun experience for the whole family.
