Destin Through a Local’s Eye: Sarah White

A Florida native and Destin local since 2011, Sarah White is a mom of two, marketing expert, and active community member. She’s the co-founder of Beespoke Consulting, a boutique agency where she helps businesses grow through smart, strategic marketing. She also organizes networking events—most notably for professionals in the construction and building industries across the Emerald Coast via Contractors Connect and ContractHER—and hosts the Trade Talk Podcast.

When she’s not working, Sarah loves spending quality time with her husband and kids, playing Mahjong with friends, cheering on the Florida Gators, traveling, and soaking up the outdoor lifestyle that makes Destin so special. Her family was even featured on an episode of American Dream Home as they searched for the perfect waterfront property!

“Destin is really a beautiful place to call home, and the people make it even better,” Sarah says. “I love that it’s a small community with one elementary school, where you’ll likely run into someone you know wherever you go. And of course, you can’t beat living on the water!”

Cruise the Harbor

One of my favorite ways to spend time in Destin is cruising the harbor. It’s always a must-do when we have visitors. It’s fun to look at all the gorgeous homes, stop and take in the energy of the bustling harbor. In early spring, when the water’s too chilly for us locals to swim, it’s the perfect way to get out and enjoy the water without diving in.

Yacht Rock Revue at Mattie Kelly

If I had to pick one favorite event of the year, it would hands-down be Yacht Rock Revue at Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation’s Concerts in the Village. They never disappoint! The music is fun and retro, the crowd is laid back, and the atmosphere is super family-friendly. It’s usually in April when the weather is beautiful, and it’s always so much fun to hang out with friends while the kids play, do some dancing and the people watching is pretty great, too!

Doc’s Oyster Bar in Valparaiso

Every beach town needs a great hidden gem, and for me, that’s Doc’s Oyster Bar. Tucked away in Valparaiso, it’s an easy boat ride from Destin, which makes the journey part of the fun. Ironically, they don’t actually have a dock, but it’s simple enough to beach your boat and head inside. The food is always good, the atmosphere is welcoming, and if you go on a weekend, you’ll catch live music.

Beach Days at The Back Porch

When we do go to the beach instead of boating, my tip is to rent chairs behind The Back Porch. It makes the whole day easier…no lugging chairs and umbrellas across the sand in the hot sun! Plus, you can pop up to The Back Porch for lunch or a drink and be back in your chair in minutes. It’s convenient, relaxing, and one of the best ways to do a beach day.

Fall Sunsets

Most visitors come for spring break or summer vacations, but my favorite time in Destin is fall. The sunsets that time of year are nothing short of spectacular, whether you’re watching from the Gulf side or the Bay. The colors are always magical in the fall and it’s a little more peaceful once the summer crowds have left.

The Destin Boat Parade

Nothing says Christmas in Destin like the annual Boat Parade. It’s one of our town’s most beloved traditions! It feels nostalgic seeing the harbor lit up with festive boats, music, and community cheer. It’s the perfect kickoff to the holidays and such a fun way to celebrate life by the water.
