Whether you call Destin home or you’re vacationing along the Gulf Coast this summer, there’s no denying that this little slice of paradise is packed with sun-soaked adventures. From the iconic emerald water and sugar-white sand to fresh seafood and unforgettable sunsets, Destin is the kind of place where summer memories are made. Marilu Morgan, an incredible local artist, created the perfect summer bucket list with things to do in Destin. Below are her summer bucket list items and you can click here to access her printable version so your kids can color it and check off items before heading back to school. Let’s dive in!

Go Snapper Fishing
Known as “The World’s Luckiest Fishing Village,” Destin is the perfect place for both beginner and experienced anglers to cast a line. Red snapper season is June 1 through July 31, so book a charter or take your boat out on the Gulf for a chance to catch this popular fish!
Eat a Snoball at Dewey’s
With a gorgeous view and cool treats, it’s no wonder Dewey’s Snoballs is a must-visit every summer (well, multiple times per summer). There are over 30 flavors and the snoballs can also be topped with cream or marshmallow and stuffed with cheesecake or ice cream. YUM! Plus, their deck is perched along the bay and offers gorgeous views of summertime sunsets and Crab Island.
Play Pinball at The Local Market
While you grab a bite to eat at The Local Market, don’t forget to enjoy the pinball machines! It’s a great way to keep your kids busy so that you can enjoy their #1 Cuban Sandwich or some breakfast tacos without little hands grabbing for a bite.
Kayak on Choctawhatchee Bay
The Gulf isn’t the only spot for water sports—the Choctawhatchee Bay offers calmer water for kayaking or standup paddle boarding. If you don’t have your own, there are numerous local companies that offer rentals.
Watch Fireworks From Harbor Docks
Every Thursday night in the summer, fireworks are set off from HarborWalk Village and can be seen from various points around the harbor. Stop by Harbor Docks for the best sushi in town and watch the show from their deck.
Library Summer Reading
If you’re a local, the Destin Library offers a Summer Reading Challenge that is fun for all ages. It features weekly special events and activities, personal reading challenges and online tracking with prizes. From baby and toddler story time to craft nights and a magic show, both adults and kids will enjoy the challenge and activities!

Cool Down with a Swell Pop at Camille’s
If you’re craving a refreshing treat, Swell Pops will hit the spot! These local, gourmet popsicles are hand crafted in Destin and can be found at a variety of locations around town. Camille’s at Crystal Beach has a freezer that’s stocked full of your favorite flavors—including their very own Camille’s Cookie Popsicle.
Visit the Splash Pad
There are two popular splash pads in Destin: one at Destin Commons and another at Captain Leonard Destin Park. Head to Captain Leonard if you want a beachy experience as it overlooks the Bay and Crab Island. Want to avoid the sand and salt water? Destin Commons has a splash pad located next to the playground and lawn.
Big Kahuna’s
Enjoy a variety of slides, a lazy river, surf simulator and more! Big Kahuna’s Water Park provides a fun way for the whole family to cool down.
Watch a Movie at the Theater
Need a break from the sun? There is an AMC movie theater at Destin Commons showing all of the summer box office hits. Plus you can enjoy discount matinees! Every day before 4pm, movie tickets are 25% off the evening base ticket prices

Enjoy a Beach Sunset
Seeing these colorful sunsets over the Gulf or Bay never gets old! Here are some spots where you can watch the sunset in Destin.
