Whether you want to check out books (either in-person or electronically), take your kids to story time, or connect with other community members, the Destin Library is such a gem! When I was a new mom, I was thrilled to discover that they offered story time so that I could get free entertainment for my son and also meet more local moms. In addition to these recurring events, they also host a variety of seasonal happenings, art classes, and community get-togethers, so check the full calendar here or follow on Facebook for updates! Below is additional information about their regular programs.
Preschool Story Time
Join the Children’s Librarian every Thursday at 10am for Preschool Story Time. Ideal for ages 3 – 5, this weekly event offers a morning of stories, song & dance, movements, finger plays, and arts & crafts. It’s a great way for kids to learn and make new friends!
Babytime
Babytime is a weekly story time that is geared towards the younger kids, ages 0 – 2 years old. Every Monday at 10am, the Children’s Librarian will lead the group through songs, dancing, rhymes, and stories. Story time will take place on the floor with each baby in an adult’s lap.
Amateur Authors Writers Group
This bi-monthly writers group takes place every other Tuesday from 4pm to 6pm. Join a relaxed group where writers of all skill levels and experience can share their work for thoughtful, constructive critique by their peers. Must have an active email address as writing submissions for the group are emailed to members a week prior to the meeting. Membership slots are limited, so make sure to register! Learn more here.
Novel Idea Book Club
Love to read and want to connect with fellow book lovers? Join the Novel Idea Book Club! It meets every third Thursday of the month at 11:30am. They focus on a variety of fiction titles with an occasional nonfiction choice.
Destin Garden Club
The gorgeous grounds of Destin Library are beautified by the Destin Garden Club, which is dedicated to enriching their members and the public with gardening awareness and education. They meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 9:15am. You don’t need to be an expert – this is a great opportunity to learn about gardening on the Florida panhandle!
Meditation Class
Emerald Coast Meditation Society hosts a Meditation Class on the first Tuesday of every month from 9am to 10:30am on the Destin Library lawn. This free event welcomes meditators at all levels. Feel free to bring a cushion/folding chair/ yoga mat and water if needed. Each meeting will begin with a 30-minute silent meditation followed by a guest speaker (previous guests have included an ordained Buddhist monk and a local greengrocer). Time is allotted for questions and discussions, and then it concludes with a five-minute meditation.
