Molly Carter is a lifelong Destin local, mom of four, wife to Jason (owner of Carter Building Company), and active community member. You may recognize her from her Instagram account @DestinDuchess where she shares Destin recommendations, meal planning inspiration, travel tips, and more lifestyle content. Whether you’re looking for the best dishes in Destin or want to live vicariously through her beachy life, she is fun to follow and a great resource! Plus she’s truly the sweetest person. She was the first friend I made when we moved to Destin and I’ll be forever grateful that our paths crossed!
Here are some of Molly’s favorite things to do in Destin:
Sushi at Harbor Docks
Harbor Docks is a staple with locals and tourists alike and the absolute best spot for sushi in Destin! My favorites are the Backdown Roll, Hey Baby, Amazon, and Summer Rolls. The view of the harbor can’t be beat.
Pasta Class with Eliana the Italiana
Eliana is a true Italian living on the Emerald Coast and offers the most fun scratch-made pasta classes. This makes for such a fun girls night or birthday party and the finished product is delicious!
Destin Fishing Rodeo
A nearly 80-year-old tradition, the Fishing Rodeo is a Destin must in the fall. It’s a fishing tournament that lasts the entire month of October and brings in anglers of all ages and skill levels. Head down to the docks behind AJ’s to see the daily catch.
Dinner and Live Music at Bric-A-Brac
If you’re into funky, Bric à Brac is your place! The menu is small, but the offerings are fabulous (the crab cakes and Bric-A-Brac Chicken are to die for). Local jazz band Jones and Company rocks the house every Friday night and my kids love watching everyone out on the dance floor.
Take a stroll down Scenic Highway 98 and Stop at Camille’s Sidewalk Cafe for a Coffee
This is one of my favorite things to do while my kids are in school. I’ll walk a few miles down the gorgeous beach front, then refuel with a coffee, house-made granola, or breakfast tacos at Camille’s. Bonus: the restaurant is directly across from a public beach access with parking.
Beach Worship with Destin Methodist Church
Where else can you attend a church service at the beach? Grab a beach chair and a Bible and head down to The Crab Trap on Scenic 98 every Sunday morning at 7:30am for a service with Destin Methodist Church.
Brunch at Bitterroot
Bitterroot is a great spot for a date night dinner or brunch with the ladies. The ever-changing menu is full of innovative and exciting items from local purveyors. My brunch favorites are the Cold Brew Martini, Beef and Basil Salad, and Savory Bread Pudding. They also serve a darn good cup of coffee!
