Looking for a family-friendly activity near Destin? One of my favorite things to do in the spring is pick fresh strawberries with my kids. It has become our tradition to visit Brooks Farm Strawberry Patch every year, which is located at 5760 Griffith Mill Road in Baker, Florida. It’s about an hour drive from Destin, but makes for a fun excursion! They offer pick-your-own strawberries as well as freshly made treats like strawberry shortcake and strawberry frozen yogurt. Whether you want to pick enough to fill your freezer or just bake a delicious dessert, you’ll leave with a box full of delicious berries!
A Few Tips For Your Visit:
Check if they’re open before you hit the road. Dates and hours of operation can vary based on weather and how many ripe strawberries are available. Check their Facebook page for updates or call 850-902-3465. Strawberry season seems to run from mid-March to end of April.
Bring cash or checks. They only accept cash or checks for the berries and treats.
Wear sunscreen. There isn’t any shade out in the strawberry patch, so plan accordingly with sun protection. We usually spend an hour picking strawberries, so I make sure to wear a hat and put sunscreen on my kids. It can be hot, so you may want to bring a water bottle, too.
Don’t wear your nicest shoes. This isn’t the time to test out your new white sneakers or stylish sandals. There can be muddy spots if it has rained recently, so wear shoes that can be washed easily or you don’t mind getting dirty.
Order some treats! The menu features delicious desserts, such as loaded strawberry shortcake, strawberry yogurt, strawberry sundae, and strawberry milkshake. You can also purchase jars of jam to bring home with you. Flavors include strawberry, strawberry jalapeño, strawberry pineapple, blackberry, blueberry, and peach.
Research strawberry recipes! We usually make a batch of this strawberry ice cream and a classic strawberry shortcake. Plus we enjoy them plain because they are SO good!
