Destin may be known for its beaches, but when you’re looking for a simple, stress-free outing with kids, a great playground can be just what you need. Whether you want a fenced-in space for little ones, a splash pad to cool off, or a scenic park where kids can run and climb, there are plenty of family-friendly playgrounds in Destin and nearby Fort Walton Beach to choose from.
This guide rounds up the best playgrounds in Destin, from local favorites to waterfront parks worth the short drive. As a local mom who’s visited them all more times than I can count, these are the spots we keep coming back to for easy, fun days outside.

Morgan Sports Center Playground — Destin
This one is a gem that a lot of visitors completely miss, which honestly makes it even better. The Morgan Sports Center playground is well-maintained, shaded in spots, and has equipment that works for a range of ages. It has that relaxed neighborhood feel where your kids can safely run around and probably see some friends from school.

Captain Leonard Destin Park — Destin
Named after the man who put Destin on the map, this bayside park is a solid all-around option for families. Captain Leonard Destin Park has a small beach area overlooking Crab Island, boardwalk extending out into the bay, unique playground equipment (think natural elements like wood and rope rather than colorful plastic), splash pad, restrooms, picnic pavilions, and kayak launch. It’s one of my favorite places to cool off in the summer and enjoy the natural beauty in the winter. Bring a picnic and make an afternoon of it!

Destin Commons Playground & Splash Pad
This one is a full experience and probably the most family-friendly stop on this list for visitors. The Destin Commons playground and splash pad sits right in the middle of the outdoor shopping center, so you can also grab a coffee and stroll through the stores.
The splash pad is the real star in warm months. Kids absolutely love it and it’s a perfect midday activity when the beach heat gets to be too much. Free to use, easy to access, and centrally located, this one is a no-brainer!
Ross Marler Park — Okaloosa Island
Overlooking Choctawhatchee Bay, the coastal-themed playground at Ross Marler Park is brand-new as of March 2025. It features interactive elements to educate children about marine life in addition to slides, swings, and climbing structures.
It’s a great option if you want to combine a park visit with some time by the bay or a meal at The Gulf, an open-air restaurant serving up seafood, cocktails, and more.
The Landing — Fort Walton Beach
The Landing is a staple for families in Fort Walton Beach. Set right along the water, it offers beautiful views of the sound that make any playground visit feel a little more special. The equipment is well-maintained, there’s plenty of open green space for kids to run around, and there’s even a tiny library if you want to sit and read a book with your child.
It’s tucked away behind the main street in downtown Fort Walton Beach, so when you’re done at the playground you can walk over for a latte at Maas Coffee Roasters, cookies at Thick Cookie Co., or a laid-back beer and pizza at Wood Foot Beer Co.
There is construction near the waterfront as the boardwalk and amphitheater are currently getting renovated, but the playground itself isn’t affected.
A Few Things to Know Before You Go
Florida sun is no joke, even at a playground. Pack sunscreen, bring water, and try to time playground visits for the morning or late afternoon when it’s not blazing. Most of these parks have limited shade, so a hat goes a long way. And if you’re visiting in the summer, the splash pads at Destin Commons and Captain Leonard are basically a necessity.
The Bottom Line
The Destin and Fort Walton Beach area really delivers through when it comes to playgrounds, especially for a beach town. Whether you need a quick stop to wear out the kids before dinner or you’re looking for a full afternoon activity, there’s something on this list for every family. And as someone who has dragged two kids to all of these at various points, you really can’t go wrong with any of them.
