After a hot day by the beach, there’s nothing better than a frozen treat to cool down! From classic ice cream and gourmet popsicles to New Orleans style snoballs and frozen bananas, here are the best places to get a cool creation in Destin and on 30A.
Pink Coyote Dessert Co.
Enjoy a view of Crab Island and a beautiful sunset as you enjoy homemade ice cream at Pink Coyote Dessert Co. This locally owned ice cream shop is located next to Dewey Destin’s Seafood Restaurant on the Choctawhatchee Bay and serves several staples and seasonal flavors. Their ice cream starts with raw rBST-free milk from Florida dairy farming families and is sweetened with non-GMO cane sugar before they add in scratch made chunks and swirls. They recently opened a second location in Fort Walton Beach that also serves coffee, sundaes, baked goods and other tasty treats. Learn more about it here. It’s the perfect way to get your Pink Coyote fix when their Destin stand is closed during the off season.
Dewey’s Snoballs
Dewey’s Snoballs (open from March through October) shares a spot with Pink Coyote Dessert and offers New Orleans style snoballs. Choose from more than 30 handcrafted syrups, cream or marshmallow topping, and cheesecake or ice cream stuffing to customize your delicious confection! Not to be confused with snow cones, snoballs are made with fine, fluffy ice that absorbs the syrup (rather than letting it sink to the bottom like crunch, coarse snowcones). Every bite will taste just as sweet as the first! They make all of their syrups in-house using 100% Louisiana cane sugar and the best flavor concentrates that New Orleans has to offer. The extensive flavor menu includes red velvet, wedding cake, piña colada, blue raspberry, key lime pie, and many more.
Swell Pops
These handcrafted gourmet popsicles are made with fresh, and often locally sourced ingredients. They make 20+ flavors including Raspberry Swirl, Key Lime Pie, Sea Salt Caramel, and Cookies + Cream (my personal favorite and one of their most popular). You can find these tasty treats around town at restaurants such as La Paz, The Local Market, Camille’s, and Formula Fresh just to name a few (here is the full list of locations). There’s also a freezer full of them by the pool at The Henderson!
Pecan Jack’s 30A
Pecan Jacks is a family owned ice creamery and candy kitchen committed to crafting deliciously mouth-watering and unique flavors. There are two locations: one on the west end of 30A right across from the Ed Walline Regional Beach Access. You can find the other one in Seagrove Beach within Greenway Station. Enjoy a cone after your beach day or stock your vacation rental’s freezer with pints of your favorite flavor. For those 21 and older, they also have alcohol-infused ice cream! Even though it sounds simple, my favorite is cookies and cream.
Blue Mountain Beach Creamery
You’ll find the cute, colorful Blue Mountain Beach Creamery on 30A. This family owned and operated creamery serves amazing ice cream, frozen yogurt and sorbet. There is often a line, but a scoop in their fresh waffle cones is definitely worth the wait! You can also stop by The Shake Shop, which is located directly behind The Creamery. Here they serve milk shakes, Charlie’s Donuts, Lucky Goat coffee, frozen custard, Bill’s Lemonade and sno cones.
Nigels 30A
For a unique treat, stop by Nigel’s in Seaside. They dip frozen bananas, frozen key lime pie, frozen cheesecake, and ice cream bars into Belgium chocolate. Then you can pick your toppings from sprinkles, cookie crumbs, candy pieces, peanut butter drizzles and more! They also serve craft soda floats, boozy floats and beer/wine by the glass.
