Christmas Bar in Destin: Cheers To the Holiday Season at La Paz

‘Tis the season for festive decor, Christmas cocktails, and enjoying time with loved ones! There’s no better place to get into the holiday spirit than at La Paz Restaurante & Cantina. Owner Chatham Morgan and his team have turned this local Mexican restaurant into a Christmas wonderland. With bright lights outside and the inside adorned with garlands, trees, icicles, and more festive decor, this pop-up Christmas bar in Destin will have you feeling jolly! They thought of every detail—from snowflake-shaped ice cubes and gingerbread cookie garnishes to cute glasses and seasonal house-made ingredients. Plus you can still enjoy your favorite fish tacos, queso and more delicious dishes.

Christmas Cocktails

When it comes to their Christmas cocktails, my favorite is the Rosa Paloma. Tequila, house-made paloma mix, and lime juice are served in a clear ornament, which you then pour into a sugar-rimmed glass. The presentation is beautiful and it tastes just as good as it looks. Another new addition this year is the piña colada inspired Blue Christmas. They also added Gluhwein to the holiday menu, which is a mulled wine traditionally served at German Christmas markets. La Paz makes theirs with Gabbiano Chianti, house-made spiced pomegranate juice, fresh orange juice, Amarreto and Gran Gala. The warm drink is served in a glass mug with a sugar rim. Returning favorites include the Butterscotch Old Fashioned and Pomegranate Mule.

Festive Nonalcoholic Drinks

The holiday menu also features several nonalcoholic drinks. If you want to warm up with something hot, give the Ponche Navideno a try. It’s a traditional Mexican Christmas punch made with regional fruits, flowers, and spices. Their recipe features apples, pears, piloncillos, tejocotes, guava, prunes, raisins, sugar cane, tamarind pods, cinnamon, and hibiscus flowers. It is delicious, comforting, and tastes like Christmas in a mug.

Craving a classic? They also serve hot chocolate made with gourmet semi-sweet chocolate and whole milk (no powder packs here!).

And if you want a cool, creamy treat order the Horchata (pictured above). La Paz Head Chef Felipe uses his mother’s recipe which includes rice milk, cinnamon and top-secret Christmas magic. It’s served with a sugared rim, holiday-shaped ice cubes (like snowflakes, gingerbread men, and Christmas trees), and a homemade gingerbread man cookie. You could also add a shot of your favorite spirit to any of these seasonal drinks.

This pop-up Christmas bar in Destin is the perfect place to enjoy the season with the whole family. Kids will love the bright decor and cactus photo op just as much as the adults.
