Libbo Morgan is a Destin artist, mom of three, wife of Harbor Docks owner, Eddie, and beloved community member! You’ve probably seen her colorful, abstract work around town—from illustrations on the Harbor Docks menu and hand-painted Christmas ornaments at Camille’s to pop-up shops and murals. Her pieces are full of nature and often capture the essence of Destin, whether it’s the colors or subject matter (she has Destin & 30A map prints available on her website, which would make a great gift or souvenir!). Libbo shares her skills with the community by teaching workshops at local schools and recently hosted Craft Club at East Pass Coffee Co where they painted herons and framed them on pretty fabric. Check out the Q&A below to learn more about Libbo, her beautiful art, and her top Destin recommendations!
What inspires your work?
I draw most of my inspiration from nature. I love being outside, going barefoot, and immersing myself in all things outdoors. This connection to nature shines through in my work, whether it’s through vibrant colors, natural forms, or a sense of organic movement in my pieces.
What is your favorite medium?
While I don’t necessarily have a single favorite, I lean towards watercolors, acrylics, pastels, paint pens, and markers. These mediums make creating fun, as they allow me to work quickly and bring my ideas to life without waiting forever for them to dry.
What kinds of projects do you love the most?
Pet portraits are probably my favorite type of project. There’s something so special about capturing the spirit of someone’s furry friend—it makes me smile.
Are you originally from Destin?
Nope! I’m originally from Tuscaloosa, Alabama. I attended the University of Alabama, where I met my husband. I moved to Destin in 2010 after we got married, and we’ve been here ever since.
How has living in Destin influenced your art?
Destin’s natural beauty has had a huge impact on my color palette. The blues, greens, and emerald shades of the Emerald Coast are reflected in almost all my paintings. Destin is a wonderful, tight-knit community full of inspiring people and amazing artists, and that vibe finds its way into everything I create.
Where can people see your art around town?
My art is on display in Harbor Docks, Camille’s at Crystal Beach, and The Local Market. I recently completed a mural in the lunchroom at Destin Elementary School, which might be one of my favorite projects so far. You can also spot “Chuck,” the eagle heron statue I painted for Okaloosa Public Arts, over at Harbor Docks. If you’re in Birmingham, you can see some of my pieces at the Beverly McNeil Gallery alongside many other beautiful works.
How has the local community responded to your art?
I love connecting with people through art. Pop-up shops are some of my favorite events—they’re small and intimate, and I get to meet people and hear their stories. I recently hosted a craft club art class at East Pass Coffee Co., which was a blast, and the art turned out beautifully. With three kids, my weekends are packed with sports and family, so these smaller community events are just perfect.
What are your top three recommendations in Destin?
First, Harbor Docks—it’s my go-to, not just for the sushi and pad Thai, but for the atmosphere and people. La Paz is another favorite, with the best cheese dip and margaritas around. For coffee, East Pass Coffee Co is fantastic, and Boshamps is a must-visit. I also love Camille’s at Crystal Beach, you can grab a snack and cocktail and walk over to the beach to watch the sunset. Henderson Beach State Park is my favorite for a long relaxing day on the beach, but there are lots of wonderful places, people and attractions here, it’s the best.
