Mark your calendars! On Saturday, August 23, Harbor Docks will be hosting their 39th Annual Take A Kid Fishing Day Auction. The silent auction begins at 6pm and live auction begins at 7:30pm.

Destin is built on a rich tradition of life on the water. From generations of charter captains to the bustling docks filled with the day’s fresh catch, fishing is woven into the fabric of our community. It’s more than a pastime here; it’s a way of life. That’s why it’s so important to pass this legacy on to the next generation. Through events like Take A Kid Fishing Day, local children get the opportunity to experience the thrill, pride, and joy of fishing — and hopefully spark a lifelong connection to the water and our community.
About the Auction
The goal of this event is to raise funds for the 30th Annual Take A Kid Fishing Day, set for November 2, 2025. This highly anticipated experience gives 300 local children the opportunity to spend an unforgettable day on the water, fishing aboard some of Destin’s finest charter boats. Thanks to generous community donations, local business sponsorships, and proceeds from the auction, the entire experience is offered at no cost to the kids.
Let’s come together to keep this tradition alive and growing! There is a $20 cover charge for the auction, which includes delicious food (including Yoshie’s legendary sushi) and a bidder number. With hundreds of items up for grabs, guests can bid on everything from deep-sea fishing trips and a week-long Montana getaway to local artwork and restaurant gift cards. I’ve also donated a photography mini session, which is perfect for Christmas cards 😉
Auction proceeds also support Emerald Coast Food Rescue (formerly known as Destin Harvest), a local nonprofit working to combat food insecurity across Okaloosa and Walton counties. In the past year alone, the organization distributed nearly 2.7 million pounds of food to families in need.
About Take A Kid Fishing Day
Take A Kid Fishing Day is a free event for children 7 to 13 years old. Every year, on the first Sunday of November, 300+ children are treated to a day of fishing in Destin. For many of these kids, this day offers a rare experience — a chance to explore the open water, learn new skills, and connect with nature and community in a truly unforgettable way.
The day begins bright and early with breakfast provided by The Donut Hole, followed by a morning of fishing in the Gulf of Mexico or Choctawhatchee Bay, guided by volunteer captains and crews. After returning to the dock, the young anglers and their chaperones are treated to a fish fry lunch at Harbor Docks, capping off the experience with full stomachs, smiles, and new memories. Every child goes home with their own t-shirt and fishing rod and reel, giving them the opportunity to keep fishing long after this memorable day.
